Belousov-Zhabotinskii reaction   (English)

Definition (undergraduate level)

A famous chemical reaction, in which a dish of liquid of a single colour spontaneously breaks out into concentric circles of different colours. This spontaneous appearance of patterns is one of the things which chaos theory studies.
